Product Manager & UX Researcher

The Challenge:

This project addresses a significant challenge in China's children's optometry sector by integrating offline and online services to bridge existing service gaps. The primary issue involves enabling users to upload offline optometry data and medication records online, which are essential for creating accurate and comprehensive patient profiles. This hybrid model aims to streamline the process, allowing for more efficient collaboration among healthcare providers and enhancing the accessibility of personalized eyecare solutions.

Type:

Digital APP, Service Design, UX/UI Design

The Outcome:

This project significantly enhances efficiency for both users and optometrists, boosting transactions by 30% and increasing user loyalty by 25%. Importantly, it incorporates the building of electronic health records (EHRs) for over 15,000 children, streamlining pediatric eye care. This initiative has improved accessibility and convenience in the eyecare industry, representing a major step forward in delivering optometry services, with a 40% increase in the rate of patient follow-ups.

BACKGROUND & RESEARCH

1. Current myopia population analysis:

Due to factors such as excessive use of electronic devices and increasing academic pressure, myopia rates are escalating globally. Specifically, in China, the number of individuals with myopia reached 750 million in 2021, demonstrating a continuous and rapid upward trend.

There are currently about 44,800 ophthalmologists in China, of which less than 4,000 are responsible for optometry.

Group 2310.png

At the level of developed countries, the number of optometrists needed is 10 times higher than that of ophthalmologists.

Currently in China, the business model for children's optometry and eyeglasses service predominantly resides in offline channels, marked by a lack of user information interchange and documentation. Concurrently, the industry falls short of a standardized and comprehensive process to ensure young users receive professional and regulated optometry services.

This not only hinders the provision of high-quality eyecare but also poses challenges in maintaining a consistent service delivery standard across the sector.

UPSTREAM:

Guided by the market's demand characteristics, traditional business models, and transactions continue to shape this sector. The prevailing dynamics compel a closer scrutiny to ensure alignment with contemporary market needs, fostering a conducive environment for innovative solutions and sustainable growth.

MIDSTREAM:

Predominantly, the manufacturing landscape is characterized by small-scale entities with minimal market share and dominance, epitomizing a decentralized competitive framework. This lack of market concentration precipitates irregular operational paradigms. Despite the high level of competition, the arena exhibits a low and disorderly market conduct, predominantly driven by price competition. This scenario underscores the imperative for strategic market consolidation and operational standardization to foster a more structured and competitive marketplace.

DOWNSTREAM:

Consumer expectations are evolving, with a growing emphasis on professionalism and holistic service delivery. However, the end retailer market is marred by a low concentration, which invariably impedes consumers from consistently receiving satisfactory service. This dispersed market structure necessitates a strategic re-evaluation to enhance retail consolidation and elevate service standards, thereby aligning with contemporary consumer expectations and fostering a more robust and customer-centric retail landscape.
